Militants burnt down machine house of a mobile service provider and shot one 50-year old man in Manipur in the past 24-hour.
Militants burnt the machine house of Tata Indicom mobile service operator at Maibam Lokpa Ching under Nambol police station of Bishnupur district last night, at about 8 pm, police report stated.
Police suspected nonfulfilment of monetary demand served by a militant outfit behind the arson of the machine house. A case had been registered to investigate into the arson act.
Mention may be made that recently, the service of Indicom was suspended for three days and the office closed down following heavy monetary demand from the underground outfits.
In another militancy related incident, a 50-year old man, a close associate of the state health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat was shot by four gunmen claimed themselves to be activists of KCP(City Meetei) last night at about 10 pm, police said.
Decrying the incident of shooting, villagers of Yaingangpokpi today staged a sit-in protest at the village. They urged the underground groups not to indulge such kind of violence when they could not target the minister.
