Awareness prog on HIV and AIDS, family planning

Family Planning Association of India (FPA India), Nagaland Branch as part of its core activity on family planning & contraception and SRH&R including special project “Addressing stigma and positive prevention amongst PLHIV and key population” funded by Japan Trust Fund, organized series of roadside HIV and AIDS, family planning and contraception awareness program including mobile VCT at Kiphire, Pungro, Wazehu and Meluri besides IEC stickers campaign.
The six day tour coincided with safe motherhood day on July 10 at Kiphire town and World Population day on July 11 at Pungro. People from various walks of life both young and old flocked the program and participated with equal eagerness and curiosity.
The plan of the program was more game and quiz oriented along with prizes, besides brief clarifications on the myths and misconceptions on the matters of HIV and AIDS, family planning and contraception. Film on HIV was also screened at all program stoppage.
The state branch manager FPA India, Vincent Belho expressed that the tour was an eye opener to all members of the team comprising of 10 FPA staff and youth volunteers as for many got a first of its kind opportunity to meet people from different background and locations besides providing an insight into the NGO’s role to the needs of HIV prevention and services including the big need for correct understanding into the concept of family planning and services.
The FPA India team has thanked DC Kiphire CM Tsanglao, SDO (Civil), Pungro, ADC Meluri, USBLA guest house management, Wazehu village chairman and board members of Kiphire district people living with HIV network (KpNP+) for their support and coordination in helping the tour fruitful and successful.
The branch has also informed it would organize tours district wise to Mon and Longleng district and in this regard sought the cooperation from all quarters for successful outreach.
