The 9th Assam Rifles (under the command of Col Rohit Khare, Comdt) confiscated 1281 cases of liquor from a truck which was being illegally smuggled from Khatkhati (Dimapur) to Mokokchung.
According to a defence release, the seizure was made on July 18 at Desai about 2pm at a vehicle check post established by the 9th Assam Rifles.
The liquor was being smuggled under the guise of transporting cement from Mariani to Mokokchung. However, the AR on suspicion proceeded to examine the truck thereby leading to the arrest. The occupants of the truck were also arrested that included the driver Bikhu Chauhan, co-driver Ganesh Lama and the owner of the consignment Atu Ao.
The release also added that confiscation of such large quantity of liquor has dealt a big blow to the illegal smuggling of liquor into Mokokchung and the adjoining areas.
