While the state government employees and state government is fighting over implementation of the 6th ROP, the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities continue to hard hit common citizen of the state, particularly mothers who manage the kitchen.
As soon as the issue of the implementation of 6th ROP was announced, prices of almost every essential commodity started skyrocketing. Many essential commodities including Rice, cereal crops, milk product, sugar and meat which are the basic necessity for day to day survival of every common man witnessed several times of price hike during the past few months alone.
While the common man bear the brunt of the price hike, state government and authorities including the opposition, chamber of commerce and civic bodies seems preferred to remained mute spectators. In a state like Nagaland, price hike is also often a partial indicator of increased in extortions and illegal collections by various groups and anti-social elements who often called it as tax. While the business community often bows to the pressure and meet the demands, the same was often reimbursed from the common man by hiking the prices of commodities. The prevailing state of affairs is directly reflected from the non-availability of almost any commodity at the printed maximum retail price throughout Nagaland.
With the onset of budget session which begins tomorrow, the issue is likely to be the litmus test for the opposition in the state.
