Coming down hard against the order issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Dimapur permitting the Naga Council Dimapur to collect taxes as ‘Naga Commission’ on building materials, timber, perishable goods including food items as vegetables, fruits, animals, birds and fish etc till October 31,2010, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce has asked the district administration to cancel the above order within three days failing which all hardware dealers and those dealing in perishable goods will resort to agitation followed by the second phase of total and indefinite closure of business. The DCC president Kasheto Yeptho, in a statement, said the resolution was arrived at following spate of complaints from various business establishments in Dimapur. He also appealed to the general public to extent cooperation with the business community of Dimapur in voicing out against “such illegal taxation.” Kasheto Yeptho pointed out that Dimapur is already infested with various taxations, which is directly or indirectly responsible for recent price hikes in Dimapur. Owing to such a situation, he said the Chamber is totally opposed to giving any NGO with permission to collect tax. Further, he also pointed out that due to “too much taxation” even vehicles transporting goods were reluctant to enter Dimapur. The DCC president also appealed to the district administration and police to remove all illegal tax collections at the gates within a period of one week and not to give permission for “such illegal collection of tax in future.”
