Opposition Congress Thursday charged the department of Power for making excess payment to NEC Energy Pvt Ltd for operation and maintenance of the 24 MW Likimroh Hydel Project.
Raising supplementary questions to starred question raised, leader of the opposition Tokheho Yepthomi pointed out that as per the agreement made between the state government and the NEC Energy Pvt Ltd in March 2006, the state was supposed to pay only Rs. 1.17 paise per unit for the first two years and enhance the amount by Rs. 0.05 paise per unit after every two years.
However, he said the state has been paying at the rate of Rs.1.55 per unit presently after just four years of the signing of the agreement. Drawing attention to chief minister’s statement that Rs.100 crore had been paid to the NEC Energy Pvt Ltd in three installments during 2009-10, Tokheho pointed that it was in excess by Rs. 40.47 crore and demanded to know whether the amount has been paid to the NEC Energy Pvt Ltd.
State power minister Doshehe Y. Sema, in his reply, said that the enhancement of 5 paise was calculated with the depreciation and the amount commensurate with the power supply and maintenance cost. Doshehe also stated that only the operation and maintenance of the Likimroh Hydel project has been privatized for 10 years while the state government still owns the project.
