 | | Former Nagaland Chief Minister and former Governor of Goa and Maharashtra addressing the media about the need of greater involvement of Naga society in the talks process in Guwahati on Thursday. (EP) |
One of the senior most leaders of the Congress party and former chief minister, Nagaland and former Maharashtra governor, Dr. S C Jamir on Thursday called for a change in approach on part of the Centre in respect of Naga peace talks. He said involvement of the NSCN (I-M); led by Th. Muivah and Isak Swu alone in the peace talks would not solve the problem. Interacting with media at Guwahati, Jamir said from now onwards the peace-talks should be “all inclusive” involving Naga people as a whole given that the Centre has already rejected the two principal demands of the NSCN (I-M)– sovereignty and integration of Naga inhabited areas in the North East. He termed the NSCN (I-M)’s demand for sovereignty unrealistic in the present context. He said all other Naga rebel factions– NSCN (K), two faction of Naga National Council (NNC) led by Adinno and Shingnyu– leaders from civil society, leaders of tribes and political leaders should be involved in the Naga peace-talks from now onwards. The 80-year-old leader said that he was ready to play any role to find solution to the vexed problem.
