Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) astounded by NBCC’s remark on July 9 Anatongre village incident, Friday said the statement was nothing short of “utter disillusionment” to everyone in a Christian state of Nagaland on the NBCC.
In a press statement issued today, the CAN member Nosazol Charles targeted NBCC secretary by saying he was either overburdened with Prohibition Act, and was inhibited from other responsibilities of the Church, or he was totally out of touch with facts.
Claiming that on the basis of findings and documentary proofs it was constrained to seek self assertion of rights, the CAN member said its 15-member team was delegated to Kiphire and Antongre village on a peace mission cum fact finding on July 13 and 14, wherein they gathered all relevant documents after district administration and the victims.
The association, therefore, said that NBCC general secretary’s assertion that “situation was blown out of proportions” by “people without studying the ground realities and listening to both parties in conflict” was ironic.
Also, taking note of NBCC’s remark that the issue was not between Catholics and Baptists, the CAN said it was similar to Cain’s reply to God, adding that it was a direct abdication of its status and role.
The Catholic association also noted that NBCC’s appeal to “address the crisis in the right perspective for the sake of peace and harmony in our land” was even more ironic or sarcastic.
Maintaining that it had kept nothing hidden, the CAN said copies of its memorandum was addressed to Joint Christian Forum and the same was also endorsed to NPMHR.
