On the initiative taken by Sanitation Branch Incharge Lepshi Ao, Dimapur Municipal Council, DMC advisor Er. Vikholie Nienu inspected various bakeries under the jurisdiction of the DMC. The team found out that even reputed bakeries were not meeting to the standards of cleanliness. It was detected that many bakers were not using caps, aprons and gloves and even masks. Floors were found dirty besides poor ventilation and non-availability to required medical certificates.
Informing this, Er. Vikholie said bakeries in Dimapur required lots of improvement as they were not meeting to the standards. He said bakeries needed to be clean and hygienic, producing clean and healthy food items. He was of the view that bakers can use synthetic/plastic carpets to keep the floor clean and also install better water filtering system.
Stating that people throughout the state was consuming baker products of Dimapur therefore, advisor stated that it was pertinent to ensure cleanliness in all bakeries and viewed that bakeries should be located away from the main town.
He appealed to the bakers to cleanliness keeping in mind that health is the most important subject of every society and also that people all over Nagaland consume what they produce. He also asked them to co-operate with the DMC so that DMC can also help them to promote their business.
