Chang Students’ Union of NAP Sector, Tuensang observing defects in critical systems such as three 66 KV incoming transformer breakers from Mokokchung, Kiphire which has been lying damaged and out of use with the main transformer directly connected without breaker and another three 33 KV out-going breakers meant for Tuensang, Longkhim non-functional since last year, verified the power transmission sub-station Tuensang, located at NAP Sector on July 7.
A letter addressed to the chief engineer (Power) by Chang Students’ Union president O. Somba and executive chairman I.Tochi stated that during the spot verification, the union witnessed leakage of rain water in the control room due to cracks in building; underground cable trench laying naked, defective lightning receiver, no lighting system surrounding the station and not a single staff quarter was available.
Union has expressed dismay with the way the department was dealing with the problems, as no effort has been made to correct them.
It is plainly evident from the fact that no engineer/official from the head office in Mokokchung has visited the station so far in spite of critical situations, moreover, the station is currently manned by only three Jugalis (two from maintenance and one from transmission) and has no technician/engineer, SPO, CPO, JE and even a senior Lineman, stated the union.
Union has demanded the department in charge to immediately correct the defects highlighted and depute all required staff as per the strength of the station.
Union also stated that department should take necessary steps to bring transmission sub-station under Tuensang division from Mokokchung division.
