Tuluni, the premier festival of the Sumi community, observed during this bountiful season of the year, was celebrated by Sumis across the state, including Kiyeto village Dimapur, with traditional fervor and merriment on Thursday.
Welcoming the gathering as host of the festival, advisor for sericulture and cooperation MLA Azheto Zhimomi highlighted the significance of the festival. He said Tuluni festival was marked by merrymaking and was showcased through traditional games, songs and dances.
Parliamentary secretary for irrigation, flood control, geology and mining and border affairs Y. Patton, who graced the celebration as chief guest, in his message, reiterated his assurance made to the villagers during his first visit to Kiyeto village during by-elections last year. He pledged to provide water supply the Kiyeto village, for which, a project amounting to Rs.60 lakh was sanctioned.
Patton urged villagers to continue to extend cooperation to the government so that more development could be brought in.
Highlighting DAN government’s program of “year of entrepreneurs”, he assured that he would look into work proposals submitted to him, provided, it was routed though the MLA of the constituency Azheto Zhimomi.
Patton also commented that although the Congress was skeptical that DAN government would not get state budget allocation in the current year and went to the extent of campaigning in Delhi, the NPF led DAN government received Rs.2,200 crore more than the amount received last year. He said public should not be bothered about the opposition party as long as there was development in the state.
The day-long celebration was interlaced with indigenous games, folk songs and dances presented by cultural troupes of Chakhesang, Gorkha, Angami, Dimasa, Sangtam communities and Kiyeto village youth and elders.
