Liquor seized at Longnak, Alichen

Close on the heels of a major haul of liquor last month, another cache, this time a mini truck load of assorted IMFL (around 500 cases) was intercepted at a midnight operation on the night of 8 July. Mokokchung police team led by SDPO Mokokchung Wabang along with DEF and D 12 IR personnel intercepted the consignment at Longnak under Mokokchung district that was coming towards Mokokchung from Assam. Three persons, who were the occupants of the truck were also arrested and added that further investigations were on in the case. It was stated that the seized consignment was worth around Rs. 9 lakhs in the markets at Mokokchung.
Meanwhile, excise department Mokokchung in a surprise checking conducted at Alichen on July 6 and 7 seized 35 bottles of IMFL and 250 Kgs of rice beer. In this connection, 15 persons were arrested under relevant section of the law. Supdt excise and prohinition L. Wati Jamir in a press release informed that such preventive checking will be conducted regularly to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the town. Wati also requested all NGOs and public to cooperate with the department to fulfill “Total prohibition”.
