Naga Council, Dimapur, in its executive meeting held today, has decided to temporarily suspend its July 26 decision and wait for district administration to revoke or re-instate its order on Naga commission till August 10.
The Naga council on July 26 public meeting had set a seven-day ultimatum to district administration to revoke its abeyance order on Naga Commission or face the public protest. The ultimatum expired today.
According to a Naga Council statement, the temporary suspension of its decision was in view of the “amicable resolution” that arrived at a joint-meeting July 29 last at DC’s conference hall comprising of ADC Dimapur, Police, Naga Council, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce, DMC, Women Hoho, DNSU and Tribal leaders, where it was “unanimously agreed” that Naga council continue its Naga commission with restricted items to be monitored by the district administration.
The council, with regard to this, said it was grateful for the “judicious understanding of all concerned.”
It may be noted that state government on July 29 had issued a standing order directing that tax would not be allowed to be levied in Dimapur district till further orders and that such orders be kept in abeyance “indefinitely.”
Naga council, however, said that if the administration failed to oblige its “legitimate request,” it would revive July 26 resolution where a suitable course of action would be decided to restore justice to Naga Council.
