Naknyulum fest celebrated in Tsg, Sangsangyu

Naknyulum, the festival of Changs which signifies victory of light over darkness was celebrated with much enthusiasm and gaiety on July 30 and 31 at Tuensang and Sangsangyu village respectively.
The Naknyulum festival was also held on July 30 at CKS Hall Tuensang with Commandant 3rd NAP Tokiumong as special guest.
Emphasizing on the importance of Naknyulum festival, Tokiumong said the festival had a deeper meaning as it was called ‘darkness to light’. He opined that the festival was not only to maintain culture, rituals but also to transform society for the betterment of people.
Earlier, the programme started with invocation by associate executive secretary CBLT, while welcome address was delivered by president CKS.
EAC Tuensang, I. Meren spoke on the significance of the festival while presidents of KUTT, SUTT, YUTT and PUTT also delivered short speeches. Convener of the festival proposed the vote of thanks, followed by Naknyulum games and feast.
The celebration was marked by various fun-filled activities related with the celebration of Nakyulum in Sangsangyu village. On the first day, re-enactment of Nakshou Naknyu (engulfment of the world in total darkness) scene by the students of Sochem, competitions like spinning of top (yan) by the men, playing of kongkin (traditional mouth-organ) by the womenfolk and many other traditional rituals of Naknyu were performed. Later, elders from Sangsangyu village also narrated the significance of Naknyulum and many folktales associated with the festival.
On the second day, volleyball tournament was organized in which seven teams participated. Real Sanglee and 12 IR Battalion F/Coy bagged the winner and runners-up position of the tournament respectively.
Sangsangyu Students’ Union (SSU) has meanwhile expressed gratitude to the village council, sports committee, F/Coy 12 IRB, students and warden of Sochem, Sangsangyu for making the event a grand success.
