Road construction damage NH-39

Unplanned construction of new road, using dozer by certain agency, has caused immense collateral damage on NH-39 near Phesama threatening to cut off the NH-39 connectivity.
According to HQ 89 RCC (BRTF), a certain agency was pressing bulldozer to cut a new road and was using the NH as dumping ground for the debris, some 2 km from Naga Heritage Complex.
The new road, which virtually has no drainage, was turning the NH-39 into a large drain and thereby completely eroded the outer portion of the black top area of the road, it stated.
The BRTF alleged that new road construction has also encroached onto the main road of the NH-39.
While the new road has some benefit for the residents of that particular area, the BRTF said NH-39 has already become “fractured” due to the activity.
It cautioned that road formation would soon completely sink, and probably could cut off the NH-39, and access to important places such as Naga Heritage complex and connectivity to neighbouring state Manipur.
Observing that new road construction was important, the BRTF said care must be taken to protect the existing road.
