IGP Bastar region T J longkumer, IPS speaking to Nagaland Post Wednesday dismissed news reports by various agencies which reported that about 70 Chhattisgarh police personnel went missing after a fierce gun battle with Naxal in Gumiapal under Dantewada district on Wednesday.
Longkumer said that the reports on “missing cops” by various news agencies were totally false and misleading and added that they had reported without confirming the facts.
According to Longkumer, KOYA commandoes, a special force under the Chhattisgarh police, under his command conducted a successful operation on Wednesday and killed one Naxalite (in black uniform, deemed as an elite force) and recovered a 12 bore gun, two IEDs and few haversacks
The KOYA commandoes were specially trained by the 9th IRB (Naga Force) from Nagaland during their anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, Longkumer said
Longkumer said, the KOYA commandoes surrounded and attacked the elite Naxal Company who were resting on a hillock in Gumiapal area under Dantewada district. He also claimed that on the spot verification of the area clearly showed that more Naxals were killed since there were blood-stains splattered all over the place.
It maybe mentioned that various news agencies had reported about 70 police personnel missing after a “major” gun battle with heavily armed Maoists on Wednesday.
“The tribals here still remember the Nagas very fondly and they keep on asking me when is the Naga force coming” Longkumer candidly said.
