With the ‘Daring Ninth’(9 IRB) having distinguished itself during its anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, there is a strong demand for ‘Naga police’ by various state governments.
The Chhattisgarh government had wanted to retain the 9 IRB or getting replacement with another Naga IRB.
Soon to follow the 9 IRB will be the 10 IRB which, according to official sources, would be deployed at Midnapore district in West Bengal where Naxals are active.
The sources said the 10 IRB would be leaving by mid-August for West Bengal.
Meanwhile, it was also learnt that the 15 IRB(Mahila) the second all-women police battalion after the CRPF, would be leaving for Delhi for a month-long duty during the October 2010 Common Wealth Games.
Presently the 1 NAP which had completed its two-year stint, would remain for another year as per the request of the union home ministry. The Naga cops, though finding it hard, staying in pitch tents, have won accolades for their performance.
The Naga cops in Delhi are presently deployed on static duties at various installations including the US Embassy.Sources said the US embassy staff in New Delhi have requested for retention of the 1 NAP jawans indicating that the performance of the Naga cops was highly appreciated.
It may be recalled that the 11 IRB had been deployed for by election duties at Andhra Pradesh and have returned back.
