Hollohon urges youngsters to maintain health

MLA Ghaspani-II A/C K. Hollohon on Wednesday said many youngsters suffered from HIV and AIDS disease due to negligence and therefore urged on maintaing ones own health for healthy living rather than blame others for the adversity.
Hollohon was speaking as chief guest at a programme on advocacy for community ownership for HIV and AIDS with stakeholders of Ghaspani-II A/C at Town Hall, Mezhiphema organised by Women and Child Welfare Centre Dimapur.
Hollohon asserted that everyone should be alert in whatever they do and co-operate with the organizers of the programme for upliftment of society. He also called upon parents to direct their children to the right path.
Lamenting over the less turn out of participants, Hollohon appealed the gathering comprising of Church leaders, GBs, elders and officers to give interest in such programme to bring a positive changes in society.
Delivering the concept of advocacy meeting, Dr. Vinito Chshi, state co-ordinator UNAIDS-LFA expressed the need for community response as Nagaland ranked second in HIV and AIDS disease next to Manipur.
Highlighting the formation of Legislator Forum for AIDS and its role in fighting against the disease, Dr. Vinito expressed that it was the responsibility of each and everyone to spread awareness of the disease. He also lamented that even in villages; a child is infected with HIV and urged people to not to shy away from the disease but to work together for tackling the menace of HIV and AIDS.
In his welcome address, S. Doungel, ADC Medziphema expressed satisfaction that the legislators of Nagaland have taken initiatives to spread awareness of the disease and said such seminars be conducted in village levels.
He said only few people could understand the concept, though Nagaland ranks the second highest of AIDS prevalence in the country and stated such programmes be initiated at the grassroot level.
District ICTC Supervisor, NSACS, Nitoshe presented on HIV and AIDS and its scenario in Nagaland and action plan for prevention. According to the report of HIV scenario in Nagaland from January 1999 to March 2010, out of 3,02, 696 blood screened, 9425 were found positive and a total 488 died of AIDS related diseases.
The testing status at ICTC Medziphema CHC: number of test conducted- 1560, number of positive case-15, ANC test -938, ANC positive- 1 and number of positive delivery - 1.
The programme was sponsored by Legislators’ Forum for AIDS (LFA)-UNAIDS, Nagaland.
