Expressing regret over August 6 firing incident near Nagaland check gate, Tizit, where a 19-year-old girl was injured by a stray bullet, the NSCN (I-M) today clarified that it did not attempt to fire upon any individual or faction but rather fired blank shot to stop its former comrade, who allegedly fled after assaulting its members “on duty”. A press statement received here today from NSCN (I-M) Konyak region CAO Manpoh Konyak said the incident took place near Nagaland gate in Tizit town at around 3 a.m., when its former comrade Omwang, who tried to defect from its fold, was on his way to Mon in a night bus. The CAO said, however, on enquiring about his identity, Omwang instead assaulted its members and fled. The NSCN (I-M) said Omwang had recently surrendered before Indian army with their arms and ammunition. Also, stating that incident happened all because of “notorious and criminal Omwang”, the CAO said his activities should be condemned by all.
