Naga Women Hoho supports Naga Council
DIMAPUR: Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur stating that ‘Naga Council’ was an indigenous traditional institution of Naga tribes in Dimapur district which has been protecting and preserving Naga customary right for more than five decades has extended its support to the Naga council. Because of the dynamic nature and far sighted vision of Naga council institution customary rights remain intact till today, stated a press release issued by Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur general secretary Liangsi Niumai John. The Hoho maintained that Naga Council was a model not only for the state but globally as well.
‘Sing for Bible’ programme
DIMAPUR: Bible Society of India Dimapur Auxiliary Youth Committee would be organising special programme ‘Sing for Bible’ on August 27 at 4 p.m at Dimapur Ao Baptist Church. This programme is inline with BSI Bicentenary Celebration and Dimapur Auxiliary silver jubilee celebration. Altogether 25 Churches are expected to participate in the programme. Rev. S. Essay competition in Longleng
DIMAPUR: Department of school education, Longleng would be organizing essay competition on the topic “bamboo for community and livelihood” for high school students on August 21, 10 am at Government High School. DIS Longleng has informed that best three essays would be awarded with cash prize of Rs.7000, Rs.5000 and Rs.3000 respectively, sponsored by Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency. All government and private high schools under Longleng district have been informed to send two participants each for the competition.

Launching of project
DIMAPUR: A project entitled ‘Facilitating Sustained and Integrated Community Based Response for Children Affected by AIDS and vulnerable children in Dimapur, Nagaland’ would be launched on August 10, 10 a.m at AIDA Centre (Don Bosco Campus, River belt Colony). The project would be launched with Prodigals’ Home as implementing organisation and UNICEF as funding agency.
NNC general meeting
DIMAPUR: Naga National Council (NNC) has convened a general meeting on August 18 at Eastern Region. Maj Gen Lipenthung Lotha, Naga Army NNC in a press release informed that three top Naga Army retired general namely Gen. (Retd.) I. Panger walling, Gen (Retd.) Thinoselie Keyho and general (Retd.) Meretoba Oziikum would be the main speakers. All Naga Army presently in service and ex-Army men have been requested to attend the meeting.
ATC freshers’ day
DIMAPUR: Anderson Theological College (ATC) Aizuto students’ union organized 16th freshers’ day of the college on July 30. ATC principal Rev. Dr. Joshua Rochill prayed for the students while ATC lecturer Kheshiho Chishi exhorted the new batch with the word of God. A total of 46 students joined various classes. Highlights of the programme included “fun-spiration” and dinner.

Trg on rodent pest management
DIMAPUR: Agriculture department, Chozuba Sub division conducted awareness training programme on rodent pest incidence and management was conducted at Khulazu Bawe village on July 31. The resource persons of the training were Ronchamo Kikon, agriculture officer, and Sarhunyi Dukru, agriculture officer were while Letkholal Hanshing, SDAO Chozuba delivered the keynote address.

VCC Tyui reshuffled
DIMAPUR: In accordance with directives of NPCC election authority, village congress committee (VCC) of 37th Tyui A/C conducted its election on June 21. A press release issued by 37th Tyui ACCC president, Yanao Odyuo informed that all primary members from 20 village units under the constituency attended the election and selected respective VCC presidents and office bearers in the presence of assembly returning officer (ARO), Zubenthung Odyuo. Reaffirming the policy and principles of the Indian National Congress (INC), members reposed their confidence by re-electing former MLA and incumbent NPCC general secretary, Yankithung Yanthan as PCC member from his native constituency, the release added.
LHD new team
DIMAPUR: Lotha Hoho Dimapur (LHD) has elected its new team of office bearers for the tenure 2011-13 with Ntsemo Ngullie as chairman, Tsatheo Ezung as vice chairman and R. Zumomo Tsanglao as general secretary. A press release issued by newly inducted LHD general secretary stated that the Hoho would work for upholding unity, peace and harmony among the people and strengthen Lotha Naga customary law and tradition usages. The new team also extended appreciation to outgoing office bearers for their “sincere and mature” leadership.
NCSA condemns assault
Kohima: Nagaland Civil Service Association (NCSA) condemned the reported assault on one of its member Murutho Chutso, ADC Kiphire by an unruly mob on August 4, while performing bonafide government duty in the interest of the public. While condemning the assault, the NCSA reaffirmed its commitment and solidarity to all its members who have been facing similar situations with stoic and resolved in the discharge of their duties.
DSE Nagaland informs
DIMAPUR: Directorate of School Education (DSE), Nagaland has informed all the DEOs and DISs to be prepared with proposals for submission on August 12, 11am to the MDM staff under MDM section. The proposals are as, construction of new kitchen cum store under MDM wherever construction has not been done including the higher secondary and high school under their jurisdiction, kitchen devices and utensils whichever not provided and school enrolment as per the DISE as on April 1 officers who have not yet submitted. In a press release issued by N. Khevito Sema, additional director DSE Nagaland has further informed that officers who fail to submit the proposal would be barred from 2010-11 scheme.
Army recruitment rally
DIMAPUR: An army recruitment rally for male candidates would be held from August 23 to 29 at Town hall ground, Phek for categories like soldier general duty and soldier clerk/store keeper technical for all districts of Nagaland and soldier technical and nursing assistant for all districts of Nagaland and Manipur. The details are as, on August 23 at Phek, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Kohima and Mokochung and on August 24 at Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, Peren, Wokha and Dimapur. Medical examination would be held from August 26 to 28 and on August 29 written test for selected candidates of all categories who are medically fit.
Book on ‘Plan Resources of Nagaland’
DIMAPUR: A book titled ‘Plan Resources of Nagaland’ was released on Thursday by Chief Secretary Lalthara at his office conference Hall. Releasing the book chief secretary said the book offered important information of biological treasures of Nagaland and can be used for office references. Lalthara opined that the book would be useful amongst various stakeholders ranging from herb cultivators, local and entrepreneurs, wholesalers, manufacturers and exporters.
Nutrition day observed at Deukwaram village
DIMAPUR: Village health and nutrition day was held at Deukwaram village, Peren on July 26, with the help of MO, staff of P.H.C Dungki ASHA. Activities of the day like immunization assessment of nutritional status of pregnant women lactating mother and children, ANC/PNC and other health check ups for women. Altogether 102 including children and patient turned up for health check up. Medicines from CMO office Peren, were distributed free of cost to the patient. The villagers have extended gratitude to those who have contributed for the cause.
Green drive in Chieswema garrison
DIMAPUR: The 13 Assam Rifles under HQ 5 Sector Assam Rifles of IGAR (N) undertook a large-scale tree plantation as part of the “Green Drive” at Chieswema Garrison on July 30. A large strength of enthusiastic and nature loving participants including AR troops, families and children planted about 750 saplings as suited to the local climatic conditions. Brig Ved Prakash, Commander, 5 Sector Assam Rifles stated that it was the fundamental responsibility of every human being to make an attempt to negate the threat posed by global warming by afforestation.
YAN ‘Youth for nation’
KOHIMA: Youth Association of Mon (YAN) was formed under the banner of Youth Association of Nagaland at Mon district under theme ‘Youth for nation’. The association requested each and every individual of Mon to come forward inorder to uplift and develop the youth in general.
