Changpang Landowners’ Union (CLU) has expressed happiness over Nagaland government’s decision to resume oil activities at Changpang village.
A press release issued by CLU president M. Yanathung Ngullie while appreciating the decision, further urged the government not to ignore views and aspirations of the landowners and modalities to be made in consultation with CLU. Moreover, expressing concern that despite government’s acknowledgement that oil spill at Changpang was continuing unabated, union stated that no steps have been taken to contain spillage and to clean up the environment. Union further claimed that this was creating “apprehension” in the minds of the locals and cautioned that unless spillage was contained and environmental clean up was done thoroughly, CLU would not allow resumption activities at Changpang.
