At least five students of St. John school Tuensang were injured when a wooden foot bridge collapsed between Bazaar A and Bazaar C, Tuensang at around 7:10 a.m. Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the students, on their way to school, were crossing the bridge.
Some of the students suffered leg dislocation and head injury.
Meanwhile, police station colony union president Akhong Chang and bazaar ‘c’ sector union president L. Shokum Yimchungrü have appealed to the district administration to take the matter seriously in order to prevent such incident in the locality.
The sector leaders said public was facing a lot of problem owing to bridge damage, which, they added was the “main life line” of the sector people.
They have also appealed to responsible authorities to provide iron structure or any other alternative at the earliest.
The landslide has reportedly destroyed water sources/well in the colony and was affecting GPS station school 11.
In this connection, the unions have strongly urged responsible authorities to verify and initiate the matter on priority basis.
