‘Rape’ condemned

Lotha Hoho, Chumukedima and Lotha students’ union, Chumukedima have condemned the alleged rape of a 22-year-old Lotha girl in Chumukedima on August 4 last. In a press statement released here Tuesday, the Lotha Hoho, Chumukedima general secretary Vinson Kikon said on August 4 evening, at around 6 p.m., one person identified as Thepfuzouto Angami, of Jakhama village and permanent resident of 7th mile, Dimapur, had gone to residence of Rentsamo Murry, on the pretext of drinking water, and “forcefully” raped the girl while family members were away. The girl, reportedly a class-X student, is the niece of Rentsamo Murry. While condemning the “sinful act”, the Hoho has appealed to all responsible to condemn such “evil act”. It has also urged the responsible authority to punish the culprit as per the law of the land. Meanwhile, the Lotha Students’ Union, Chumukedima, also relating the same incident, has condemned the “immoral and shameful act” of the accused. The union president Thungbemo Shitiri has further appealed to all the unions and responsible citizens to come forward and extend support so as to ensure “deserved punishment to the culprit.”
