Power deptt clarifies

In an apparent response to CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi’s charges over funds released against power purchase in the state, the power department today clarified that it had awarded the operation and maintenance (O&M) of Likhimro hydro electric project (HEP) to m/s NEC energy on lease for ten years with effect from June 1, 2006.
The state power department chief engineer Er.K.Miachieo, in a press release, said O&M cost was agreed in the form of energy generated @ Rs.1.17 per unit and enhancement @ Rs.0.05 paisa per unit after every two years. Under this agreement, the chief engineer said the firm was required to operate and maintain all assets including replacement of all the defective parts at their cost.
He pointed out that total energy generated from Likhimro HEP, during 2009-2010 was 79.15 MU and total energy generated from June 2006 to March 2010 was 308.49 MU. The chief engineer also stated that O&M charges were paid @ Rs.1.17 per unit till May 2008 and the first enhancement of Rs.0.05 per unit was effected from June 1, 2008, adding that service tax and bank charges were also paid in addition.
The funds released for purchase during 2009-10 (in four payments) for Likhimro was Rs.10, 38, 00, 000, he said, and that total fund released for O&M charge of Likhimro, in the form of power purchase, was therefore Rs.10.38 crore only. For CPSUs, he said total funds released for power purchase during 2009-10 was Rs.116, 80, 00, 000, and that total fund released for power purchase during 2009-10 was Rs.126.80 crore only.
