Resuming his office after a gap of nearly two months, DC Maongwati Aier stated that he would not permit any sort of collection by Naga Council. Asserting this he said no two forms of tax could be levied and that Dimapur cannot have a parallel kind of taxation. He also went on to add that any sort of taxation would only affect the business community and general public.
While asking about the incident in which SDO (C) Hotulu was shot at an alleged ‘accidental firing’, DC clarified that it was purely a case of self accidental firing which took place while SDO (C) was on his way home after attending a birthday party. He also added that he had even verified the license of the .32 pistol which was in the retainer-ship name of the SDO(C).
Meanwhile, describing his recovery from bypass surgery from Delhi as God’s miracle, the DC informed that the complications started on June 17 last during an official meeting in Kohima.
It may be noted that he was admitted in Zion and then shifted to Escorts hospital, Delhi, after he suffered a major heart attack where four of his arteries were blocked. It was only after the doctors carried out an intensive heart surgery that he could recover.
