Chief Advisor, Dimapur Municipal Council, Er. K. Keditsu has expressed urgent need for solid waste management for Dimapur, which is one of the fastest growing cities having tons of garbage output everyday.
He said introducing solid waste management project would not only help in controlling pollution but will also add to the revenue earning of Dimapur.
He informed that present DMC dumping ground is getting small to accommodate the ever increasing garbage of Dimapur and therefore DMC has proposed for a new site away from Dimapur. He stated that dumping of garbage at DMC’s new dumping ground at Zani village near new Naga cemetery is being opposed by people living in the area.
Lamenting that animal carcasses and even human foetus were found dumped in the DMC garbage dumping ground, he appealed the people of Dimapur not to throw animal carcasses and human foetus in the DMC dumping ground.
He was of the idea that once a new garbage dumping site is settled, the presented one could be converted into DMC workshop and residential complex for DMC sweepers.
DMC sanitation incharge advisor Lepshi Ao and advisor Er. Vikholie Nienu visited the DMC dumping ground on August 11and assessed the present condition of the dumping ground and concluded that the status of dumping ground has improved following ground improvement works at the site.
