Body of one Ameto Awomi, who was reportedly abducted June 4 last at Kohima by NNC cadres, was recovered near Chedema village August 11, informed Yangzitong A&B village council Friday.
In a joint press statement issued by Yangzitong A&B village chairman Akaho Yeptho, head GB Ihoto Sangtam and Yangzitong-B village head GB Khehuto Yeptho, the body of late Ameto was recovered basing on the confession by one NNC “lieutenant” Shivito to the police.
Stating that despite “repeated appeals” to the NNC, by village authority and family members for the safe release of late Ameto, the statement alleged that Shivito and his accomplices “mercilessly tortured and murdered” him.
It stated that civil societies and NGOs had also approached NNC members including its NNC “finance kilonser” Phutoyi for late Ameto’s safe release but on all occasions the members out rightly denied their involvement.
Also, they alleged that on one occasion Phutoyi even threatened to “arrest and keep captives” of all the family members and the villagers if they attempted to implicate NNC cadres. The council went on to state that as per post mortem report Amento was “murdered” only ten days ago after much tormenting and torture.
Stating that it was “very shameful” on the part of Phutoyi to commit such crime and claim he was innocent, the signatories said Phutoyi clearly told them in a meeting that Amento was its cadre who defected to NSCN with a small arm like many others did in the past and that “NNC govt” had no arrest order against him.
Further, putting the blame on NNC “kilonser” Phutoyi for the entire episode, the authorities of Yangzitong A&B village said he “must hold the responsible in this ruthless murder of Amento Awomi.”
Meanwhile, the village council has asked the “govt. of NNC” to hand over the other culprits so that they would settle the case according to customary law.
On the other hand, the Yangzitong A&B village council has lauded south police station, Kohima for their “praiseworthy job” in unearthing the murder case and recovering the body of the deceased.
