Owing to the state government’s failure to respond to its demands, the Government Registered Class 1 Contractors from the Rengma and Lotha communities have decided to impose ban along NH 61 within its jurisdictions from 6 am of August 17 to 6 pm of August 18. The contractors had urged the government to cancel an advertisement dated July 8, 2010 and to accommodate local contractors by breaking up the sanctioned job into piecemeal as has been the practice covering Kohima and some portions of Mokokchung district. The contractors have also served a memorandum to the state government on August 7 but with no response so far. The contractors from the two communities said they were neither against the state government nor the department but to protect indigenous right. They have urged the public to co-operate during the period of the ban. Police and magistrates on duty, paramilitary forces, medical and press have been exempted from the purview of the ban.
