Konyak highlights govt’s achievements

Minister for forest, environment, ecology & wild life and excise, M. C. Konyak called upon the people to join hands in saluting all those who have helped build a stable and strong India.
Addressing the 64th Independence Day celebrations at the DDSC stadium Dimapur, Konyak highlighted the activities of the state government. He also said the government has formulated “Vision 2020” document for Agri and allied sector to achieve “Food for all by 2020.” In this regard, he said the government would be organizing the 2nd NE Agri Expo from November 23 to 27 at Dimapur under the theme “Prosperity through Agriculture.” He said the current year has been declared as the “Year of the Entrepreneurs,” through which educated unemployed youth and entrepreneurs would be helped to become successful entrepreneurs and the backbone of the state’s economic growth.
During the current year, the government intended to help at least 1000 entrepreneurs all over the state by providing financial and technical assistance, he said.
He said the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has given its approval in principle for setting up a branch of Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship at Dimapur to train up youths.
Konyak also said a proposal was made to set up a Nursing College at Christian Institute of Health Services and Research Dimapur which was finally taking shape and that a Medical College would be added at a subsequent stage.
The state government has decided to continue with the road shows during 2010-11 in view of the positive impacts it created bringing into sharp focus the rich Naga heritage and the tremendous tourism potential of the state, he said.
In the sports sector, Konyak said the government was committed to creation and upgradation of sports infrastructure in the state to benefit the youth.
The Konyak unfurled the tri-colour and took the salute from the 13 marching contingents led by Dy. SP (Reserve) Israel G Xuivi and his subordinate ABI Neihulie Angami.
Other highlights of the celebration included martial arts display by Karate Association Nagaland (KAN), home guards/civil defence personnel’s, cultural display by Yimchunger, Zeliang, Aoyim Students Union, Assamese, Gorkha and Youtsû Cultural Troupes and volley ball exhibition match. The chief guest also inaugurated the food stalls put up various departments and SHGs.
Other officials who attended the programme included parliamentary secretary for RD Pangnyu Phom, former State CM and Governor Goa & Maharastra, Dr. S. C. Jamir, MLA K. L. Chishi, former minister Imtilemba Sangtam, former MLA Atovi and host of government officials and public leaders.
