Wokha village passion fruit committee has stated that over 1000 tones of passion fruit produce remained unsold and the cultivators had lost Rs, 10, 00000 this year.
A press release issued by chairman of Wokha village passion fruit committee stated that cultivators of Wokha village had concentrated in cultivation of passion fruit where income was far better than cultivating jhum (rice cultivation) and many families and individuals depend on passion fruit farms/cultivation for livelihood.
However, this year and for the last two years, Wokha village passion fruit committee alleged that Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) had failed to dispatch fruits to the market. The committee alleged that agriculture department had not shown any sympathy to the cultivators who earned their daily bread out of the income generated.
Though farmers were asked to cultivate, department had done nothing for the cultivators to reach to the market and deceived the cultivators, claimed the Wokha village passion fruit committee.
