Normal proceedings of Manipur Legislative Assembly were disturbed Monday when workers of Manipur People Party (MPP) shouted slogans against government failure to control the prices of the essential commodities. Altogether four MPP workers were detained by security including one woman led by joint secretary of the youth front, Wahengbam Bhubon, members Y Nabachandra and Konsam Deveshwor and Wakangbam Premila Devi, assistant secretary MPP Youth Front Imphal east.
The workers started shouting after opposition member Dr I Ibohalbi of MPP gave his observation on cut motion to the demand for grant of seven departments.
They further alleged government for remaining silent towards the rising prices of essential commodities, which was beyond the affordable limit of the common people.
Deputy Speaker of the House, N Mangi was conducting proceeding in place of the Speaker, Dr Sapam Budhichandra when the incident took place. Further, other members of MPP in the House including leader O Joy remained mum at the moment.
The workers were still in the custody of the security forces, till filing this report.
It may be mentioned that on the same issue of price hike of essential commodities and scarcity of the same in the state owing the uncertainty on the national highways, workers of MPP had tried to storm the Assembly complex last weekend in which five leaders of the party, including its president, Dr Nimaichand Luwang, were detained by the police and four workers were injured who took part in the protest when police resorted in firing tear gas and smoke bombs.
