Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has stated that agriculture and allied sectors are the key areas in Mizoram under the 11th Plan. Speaking at the 55th National Development Council (NDC) in New Delhi on July 24, Lal Thanhawla expressed his government’s commitment to the main objectives of the Eleventh Plan. Lal Thanhawla emphasised the needs to focus on agriculture and allied sectors, which he believed would facilitate and ensure successful implementation in other areas of the Eleventh Plan. He also requested the ministry of Power to consider empowerment of economically-weaker state and scheduled areas while formulating its policy even as he demanded a faster development of infrastructure in these areas to ensure a successful attainment NER Vision 2020. The chief minister also explained the problems pervading some major projects in remote areas due to the non-applicability of the guidelines, which are suitable to the plain areas, in the hilly region such as Mizoram. Besides proposing the share of financial burden of Central and state in Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) to a reasonable ratio of 90:10, he also suggested an appropriate way of funding normal central financial assistance from the Planning Commission.
