NCHAC scam may be around 600 cr : Engti

HAD Minister of Assam and MLA from Howraghat, officially for the first time commented on the one thousand crore scam circling North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC). Replying to media persons at his residence at Howraghat, Engti said that the financial fiddle would be of around six hundred crore.
Engti however pleaded innocent regarding his possible involvement in the colossal swindling of public money in Dimasa Hasao district.
Since last few days rumors were on the rounds regarding confinement of two Assam Ministers in New Delhi by CBI, the enquiry team detained two Councilors of the Tarun Gogoi ministry and grilled them for their association in the thousand crore scam.
Clearing his whereabouts for couple of days, Engti revealed that he was ill, suffering from Malaria and remained indoors in Delhi. Engti claimed that CBI never questioned him; however he refused to further elaborate about his stay New Delhi.
Skeptical about the one thousand crore figure, Engti said that the sum might be around 560 to 600 crore, his statement may have spilled the bean for the Tarun Gogoi ministry who had been rubbishing the entire episode as false and fabricated. He however termed the issue as a creative work of the opposition parties.
While the Rs 1000-crore NCHAC scam was still haunting Assam politics, chief executive member (CEM) of the council Samarjit Haflongbar was voted out during the special council session at Haflong, headquarter of newly named Dima Hasao (North cachar Hills) district. During the special session, Samarjit Haflongbar and 10 other members walked out from the session hall.
It is to be mentioned that, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to investigate the misappropriation of public funds in all government departments under the council from the year 2001 till this month.
