RD dept notifies on VDB household grant
DIMAPUR: Pursuant to the cabinet decision taken on July 19, Rural development department has notified that in order to encourage the people to come out with correct and accurate number of households and population in the villages during the 2011 Census operation, the existing level of VDB household grant being given to any village will not be reduced as a consequence of household and population figures of 2011 Census. This was informed in a press notification issued by joint secretary to state government Kelei Zeliang.
ED programme underway
DIMAPUR: The two week entrepreneurship development programme (EDP) for PMEGP beneficiaries commenced on Thursday at Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) state office, Dimapur. 24 participants from Dimapur, Zunheboto, Wokha, Longleng and Peren are participating at the programme. The inaugural function was chaired by IIE guest member G. Panmei and Pranjal Kumar Das, project implementation officer, IIE Dimapur as the chief guest.
ASU 3rd assembly
Kohima: Angami Students Union (ASU) will commence its 3rd Union assembly for the tenure 2009-2011 on July 31 at 10.30 am . All affiliated units and subordinate presidents’, general secretaries and representatives of the ASU have been requested to attend the assembly. Transportation for the assembly delegates will be provided from its office (Near AIR Station, Kohima) at 9.30 am. Any proposed agendas to be deliberated in the assembly should be forwarded through the range/unit to the assembly section of the ASU 48 hours ahead of the assembly. The union also requested all its units to submit non-local verification data, membership fee for conference hall construction and government school’s data.
Distribution of Annapurna Rice
Kohima: Department of Food and Civil Supplies informed that Annapurna Rice for two months will be distributed to approved beneficiaries of both Kohima and Chiphobozou centres from ADS office Kohima, godown Kohima from August 2 to 31 between 10.30 am and 2 pm . Beneficiaries are directed to produce ration cards to collect their quota within the stipulated period. Those beneficiaries finding difficult to collect have been informed to authorize their respective village council chairman/ secretary for collection by producing ration cards.

State level seminar on RTE Act 2009
DIMAPUR: State level seminar on Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009 would be conducted on August 10, 10 am at Zonal Council Hall, Kohima. Directorate of school education has informed each district to delegate DEO, DIS, one GHSS principal, one GHS headmaster and one GMS head teacher. AR flags off media tour to Delhi
DIMAPUR: A media tour to New Delhi was organised under Military Civic Action Project by 13 Assam Rifles under 5 Sector Assam Rifles of IGAR (N). It was flagged off by Brig Ved Prakash, DIG, 5 Sector AR from Chieswema Garrison on July 27.
The excursion team comprises of 10 local journalists from various agencies. The itinerary of the journalists would include visit to various places of tourist and historical prominence in proximity of the national capital as Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Lotus Temple, Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament House.
According to defence release, the team would also interact with teachers and students of mass communication at JNU. The journalists have expressed gratitude to AR for organising the tour.
ARSU executive meeting

Date for submission of forms extended
DIMAPUR: Nagaland University, deputy registrar (acad and exam), Pranab Kumar Sarkar, has informed that the vice chancellor has extended the date of submission of forms for MA, M. Sc, M. Com, M. Phil, Ph. D, B. Sc (Agri), M. Sc (Agri) to August 6. He further added that no further application would be accepted/entertained after the stipulated time.
ATAN general meeting time deferred
DIMAPUR: The timing for proposed general meeting of Aggrieved Teachers’ Association of Nagaland (ATAN) on July 30 at ISBT, Purana Bazaar Dimapur from 10 a.m has been deferred to 3pm due to “unavoidable circumstances”. Members from all the districts have been requested to attend the meeting.
Director higher education clarifies
DIMAPUR: Director, higher education, Chubainla Jamir has clarified that the advertisement published in this local daily on July 27 relating to admission into various management courses in North East Institute of Management Science (NEIMS) Jorhat, Assam was done without the knowledge of the department of higher education, government of Nagaland. The director also added that neither permission nor approval was given to this institute to use the department’s name and has directed the directors/in-charge of NEIMS to explain why he had used the name of the department without any permission or approval and also to furnish all the letters relating to affiliation/recognition of his institute within a period of two weeks.

Kohima: Nagaland Police Service Association (NPSA) members has expressed gratitude to state chief minister Neiphiu Rio, home minister Imkong Imchen and cabinet colleagues for fulfilling the long pending desire and aspiration of the association by approving two IGP posts and two more DIGP post for NPS officers. A press release issued by NPSA General Secretary Vekhosa Kotso stated that “We do not find appropriate words to convey our thankfulness for their deep concern towards the sons of the soil which brings pride and satisfaction to all the members. Photo session for RSBY scheme under Peren
DIMAPUR: Project manager RSBY has informed all village council falling under Tening block of Peren district that the photo session for RSBY scheme (A smart card based health insurance scheme) will be re-taken for all beneficiaries for 2010. The manager of the scheme, Roko Sechü further informed that his team will be visiting the villages on: August 8- Tening town, tening village and Nzauna; August 6- Nzaunamsen, Old Nzau, Tepun and Ntu; August 7- Nsong Town, Nsong village, Bamsiakelu and Nchem; August 9- Nkialwa, Mbaupunglwa, Mbaupunchi, Azilong and Nchangram; August 10- New Tesen, Old Tesen, Mbaulwa and Upper Sinjol and August 11-Old Nkio, Lalong and Ngam. With regard to this, card holders have been asked to be present on the mentioned date for re-enrolment.
Amendments to draft of electoral rolls
Dimapur: The list of amendments to the draft electoral rolls for 1Dimapur-I, 2 Dimapur-II, 3 Dimapur-III, 4 Ghaspani-I and 5 Ghaspani-II Assembly constituencies have been prepared and is available at Electoral Registration Office and DC’s office Dimapur. A notification issued by electoral registration officer and additional deputy commissioner Dimapur, Sedevikho Khro stated that list of amendments were prepared with reference to January 1, 2010 and in accordance with the registration of Electors Rules 1960.
NJC lauds govt; rebuts false allegation
DIMAPUR: Northern Jeme Council (NJC) has thanked the government of Nagaland, ministers and officers of education department for appointing teachers in all the schools in Peren district that has been facing shortage of teachers. President, Northern Jeme Council (NJC), Vikholie stated that the move was the right step towards improvement of the education scenario in the backward district. He further refutes the false allegations made by some misguided persons in the press in the name of student bodies/organizations on July 23 and July 26, adding such individuals/groups should not use the name of student bodies or organizations to push their agenda.
AR apprehends 3
DIMAPUR: Three civilians were apprehended by Assam Rifle personnel from Nyamo Lotha Road on Wednesday night around 8.30 pm and one 7.65 mm pistol along with 5 rounds of ammunition were recovered from their possession. The three accused identified as Victor Lotha, Chumben Lotha and Yanbemo Lotha were traveling in a Tata Safari (ML 10- 9853) which was also seized. (Staff Reporter)
DIMAPUR: One person identified as Ghukato Zhimo was arrested by Dimapur police from MST Road on Tuesday morning and a total of 108 cases of IMFL were seized from possession. (Staff Reporter)
DIMAPUR: A total of 375 kgs of contraband ganja was seized in two separate incidents by Dimapur police.
According to police, two persons identified as Neikho Kuba and Ngulhibe Kafpo were arrested by Medziphema police while they found carrying 175 kgs of ganja in a black bolero on July 26 last.
In the second case, one lady identified as Purkumla (27) was arrested by the police from Poumai colony, 5th Mile, on Wednesday midnight and a total of nearly 200 kgs of ganja was seized from her possession. Police also added that her husband identified as Talou was still absconding till the time of filing this report. (Staff Reporter)
