The Sohrabuddin Sheikh murder case has received a new twist with officials involved in the enquiry of Sheikh’s assassination ordering the Karbi Anglong district administration to check-out serial number of the revolver which was used as ‘murder weapon’ in the brutal killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife and associates.
In a special order issued by the Inspector General of Police, the district administration was asked to verify whether the revolver bearing serial number 300423 of Make .32 S&W, H&R used in the elimination of Sohrabuddin Sheikh was issued to anyone person by the Karbi Anglong district administration.
Much to the relief of the district administration officials, the number did not match with any license holder of small arms from Karbi Anglong.
Noting that the investigations have led to evidence involving the role of Shah, CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat said “Given the history of connivance of Gujarat government in communal programs, this investigation should be continued.”
The CBI on Friday filed a status report on the progress of the probe in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case in which former Gujarat minister and Narendra Modi’s close aide Amit Shah has been arrested.
Apex court sources said that CBI officials had submitted the report in a sealed cover to the Registry.
