Giving an edge to the Rs 1,000-crore financial scam of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, the Central Enforcement Directorate (CED) will grill the 13 accused in the case. On Wednesday, the CED got permission from the special bench of the Gauhati High Court to interrogate the 13 accused in what is touted to be the state’s largest financial scam.
“In December 2009, the CED applied to the Gauhati High Court to interrogate the 13 accused which was granted on Tuesday. After receiving permission, the CED is likely to interrogate all the accused inside the Guwahati central jail,” a source said.
The source added that many new information related to the scam are likely come out from the CED’s interrogation, which will give a new dimension to the scam. “The investigation of CED may turn the entire dimension of the scam,” the source added. The 13 accused of the financial scam included North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council former chief executive member Mohet Hojai, Dima Halam Daogah (J) chairman Jewel Garlosa, DHD (J) commander-in-chief Niranjan Hojai and social welfare department deputy director R H Khan, reported Times News Network.
At present, different aspects of the entire N C Hills financial scam is being investigated by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) separately. While the politician-militant-bureaucrat-contractor nexus part is being investigated by the NIA, the central investigation agency is probing the part of embezzlement of government funds.
The NIA was entrusted by the central government in June 2009 to investigate a criminal case after Assam police arrested two DHD (J) rebels in April with Rs 10 million cash and weapons. Last month, CBI sleuths seized Rs 13.5 crore in cash stacked in sacks and boxes from the house of a relative of R H Khan in Guwahati.
