Dishonesty which was a usual occurrence in Assam was now crippling the Home Guard organization of Karbi Anglong, after a gallery of misdeeds which left the Home Guard Commandant office at Diphu in a tatter few months back.
According to sources, construction work for one Assam type house was undertaken at the Home Guard District Training Centre situated at Manja in the year 2008, at an estimated cost of Rs. 4,94,000, the contract for constructing this building was allotted to one Md. Muslim Uddin, a resident of Barpeta district by the authority concerned.
However, after getting the agreement the construction was not completed.
Most startlingly full and final payment for the entire works had been paid to the contractor from the office of the Director General of Police, Guwahati , as revealed by section of officials of the Home Department on condition of anonymity, green signal in shape of a letter certifying 80% completion of works was signed by a highly placed official of the 21/C AISF of Assam Police .
The final certificate stating 100% completion of the construction work was cleared by a draftsman of the office of DGP, Home Guards, Guwahati. Many staff of the Home Department, who seems dissatisfied with this kind of unbridled corruption, lamented the fact that such illegal activities would hamper the Home Guard organization adversely since it was a ramshackle body, already reeling under poor financial status from every corner. They had further demanded immediate intervention of the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell to unearth the entire fiasco.
