Uphold culture: Dr. Ngangshi

Longtrok Senden Ungma on Saturday observed its 25th year of cultural show at the Community Hall Ungma village. The show was graced by Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao, Minister PHED as chief guest. Delivering his speech, the chief guest acknowledged the Longtrok Senden in their endeavor towards upholding the culture. He added that through Longtrok Senden a good number of personalities have been molded thus bringing laurels in the state as well as in the national level. He praised Naga culture and custom was very unique and it had to be preserved adding “a race loses its identity once its culture is lost” He urged Longtrok Senden to be the forbearers in preserving and reviving the rich culture of the land.
The minister said Soyim (Ungma) was the heart and the father of Aos community and that Soyim was a God’s chosen land from where many renowned leaders were born. The program also saw presentation of two mementos to Guru Satemmeren Longkümer a recipient of Governor in 2003 and Sangyusang Pongener, recipient of national award by the chief guest.
Longtrok Senden was formed in 1959 and they have celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2009. However, this is the 25th year of the cultural show at the village initiated by them. The program saw many clubs from the village presenting various cultural items which were the highlights of the day.
