Wild elephant depredation in Morongi

The people of more than one hundred villages of Morongi mouza under Golaghat district have been spending sleepless nights due to depredation by wild elephants since April this year.
The herd comprising more than 40 elephants damaged dwelling houses and destroyed standing crops in Miripather, Kusmanbasti and Nagakota areas. Recently the elephants also destroyed several labours quarters of the Bogidhola and Bokial tea gardens.
The elephants usually come out of the Bizuli forest reserve at night and destroy houses and damage crops.
The people have approached the Forest department to take necessary steps to tackle the wild elephant menacy.
The local people have alleged that inspite of repeated requests to the Forest officials, no proper action has been taken by the Forest department concerned till now.
The local people, recently met in a public meeting where they adopted some resolutions towards solution of the problems of depredation of wild elephants.
Power grid sub-centre: Ajanta Neog, State PWD Minister inaugurated the newly installed power grid sub-centre at Tetelital Campus of the Electrical department, Golaghat.
The 132 kv sub-centre was formally inaugurated by the minister.
A meeting held in this connection was presided over by Horendra Nath Bora, Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat.
The meeting was attended by Debopriyo Das, Chief Engineer, AEGCL, Md Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Director, AEGCL, Anil Sarma Barua, Director, APDCL, B.P. Goswami, Deputy Directo, APDCL, and Md Faizur Rahman, Executive Engineer, PWD.
It may be mentioned here that the newly installed of the 132 kv sub-centre, Golaghat would fulfil the necessity of electricity. Before installation of this power grid, a 66 kv sub-centre had distributed power which proved to be insufficient.
The present 132 KV sub-centre would distribute 40 megawatt power. The 132 kv line would connect Bokajan, Mariani and Dimapur in regard to power distribution.
