Locals foil kidnap bid

An attempt to kidnap a doctor from his residence in Imphal was foiled by locals on Sunday morning who chased away the militants.
One of the two militants was apprehended by a team of police commandos who swung into action in response to people's alarm.
According to a report, two KCP (Lamphel) militants with small arms sneaked into the house of Dr Kangujam Nilachandra Singh, head of orthopedic department of JN Hospital Khwairakpam Sega road, Imphal and asked for the doctor to his wife. On refusal to call her husband, the miscreants took out arms and pointed towards her and at one labourer working at the house and also threatened to shoot. Further, the militants fired two rounds towards the doctor while he was trying to escape to his neighborhood. The doctor escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, alarmed by the firing sound local residents rushed towards the doctor's house and chased after the two youths who escaped by hijacking a scooter (Kinetic Honda) from a lady at gun point before police commandos arrived at the spot. Later, the police commandos apprehended one of the militants identified as Thangjam Kiranjit alias Boy alias Chingkheinganba (26) son of Th Nila Sigh of Hojai Udoipur of Assam and also seized a 9 mm pistol loaded with four live rounds.
Further, police established the identity of the escaped militant as Sougrakpam Nelson alias Sushil alias Bhul Makok alias Bhaimacha (26) son of S Parijat Singh of Keishampat Sega Road Jailer Leirak.
