Horticulture officers trained on winter crops

One- day training on winter crops for Horticulture officers across the state was conducted at State Horticulture Nursery (SHN) Green Park on Thursday with DHO Wokha Dr Elithung Lotha and Lecturer SASRD Dr S P Kanujia as resource persons.
Elucidating on the training programme, Dr Elithung Lotha stressed on the importance of post harvest management of vegetables and pointed out that preparation for plantation of winter crops should be done by first week of September.
Asserting that the rural farmers of the state depends mostly on sale of vegetables, fruits and animal husbandry, the DHO called for finding out ways to preserve the vegetables. He also emphasized that such kind of trainings were needed so that the horticulture officers keep upgrading their knowledge.
The topics for the training included raising nursery, production for winter crops and post harvest handling for winter vegetable.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DHO Dimapur Eyongol Natso. It may also be mentioned that there are around 40 vegetable villages across the state.
