Newly recruited graduate and undergraduate teachers under Mokokchung DIS whose appointment orders were issued on May 3, 2010 have been working without salary for the last three months.
By the end of this month, the primary and middle school teachers of some four institutions under the Mokokchung DIS would be working for continuous four months without getting paid.
As per the teachers’ appointment order, the pay and allowances of the appointees would be borne by the state mission authority (SSA) and in the event of discontinuation of the SSA programme, the pay and allowances would be borne by the Nagaland government. According to some of the aggrieved teachers, the authorities have said that the education directorate in Kohima has not released the salaries.
When inquired further, the directorate says that the salaries of the teachers were under process. The teachers are wondering as to why they were not getting paid when their same batch of appointees in other districts and even Mokokchung sub-divisions were getting their salaries.
