The fourth general meeting of Kohima Ao Officers Telongjem (Union) was held on August 28 at Jubilee Memorial Center, Kohima with minister for Home, Imkong L. Imchen as the chief guest. Exhorting the officers, the minister said gazetted officers were privileged lot and the chosen ones to move the society forward in all areas of development. He spoke on the need to change for the better while respecting one another and to correct one another wherever necessary.
He called upon the officers to speak their mind for the good and benefit of the society as a whole and on the evils of tribalism in the society, stating that the society would go from bad to worse if the trend of “groupism” was not checked.
The main speaker at the meeting, Lecturer Fazl Ali College, Akok Walling spoke on the topic ‘Vision for our youths’. He stressed on the need to have a vision for the future while preserving cultural and traditional values. He also spoke on the importance on the need to inculcate art and literature, especially among the youth. Additional Chief Secretary & Commissioner Nagaland, Banuo Z. Jamir, IAS, while putting a challenge to the members present said that the time to acknowledge the contribution of women in the society. She called upon for gender equality and to find a way forward for men and women to compliment each other. She said that women should be treated as equals in decision making and implementation. She expressed that Ao community would bring progressive and fruitful development in the society. T.N Manen, IAS (Rtd) and Dr. K. Chuba Ao, IAS (Rtd), also spoke at the meeting. Imchen donated a sum of ` One lakh towards the Union.
