Inland waterways in Manipur

Manipur will have inland water transport system as the works for opening the three inland waterways routes in Loktak Lake, the only fresh water lake in the North East region of the country has been taken up.
State Transport Department had appointed Loktak Development Authority as nodal agency for the construction of four jetties and three terminal buildings for opening the three inland waterways in Loktak Lake connecting Mayang Imphal-Thanga-Toubul-Ningthoukhong, an official source said Tuesday.
The opening of the inland waterways transport system was among various projects that had been taken up by the state Transport Department for improving the transport system in Manipur. Meanwhile, the other projects include computerized passenger reservation system for convenience of the railway passengers, and other projects.
