Haipou Jadonang remembered

The 79th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang, the great freedom fighter of Zeliangrong community, was observed on August 29 by Rongmei Students’ Union Dimapur (RSUD) along with Rongmei Welfare Society (RWS) and Zeliangrong village at Zeliangrong village council hall, Zeliangrong village Dimapur.
Speaking at the function, R. Kamei, assistant inspector Geology and Mining urged the younger generation to follow the footsteps of the legendry leader and to keep the life history of Jadonang at finger tips. Khamgaipu Kamei, secretary Social and Culture RSUD read the brief life sketch of Jadonang who was described by the British as the “Naga Raj” and had a headlong clash with the British rulers. He was hanged to death on August 29, 1931 for challenging the mighty British empire.
Also speaking on the occasion, Meijiang Gonmei, secretary finance NSF encouraged the students to be proud of their identity.
The union also felicitated the students who had recently passed out in Class x and xii examinations and encouraged them to excel more in their studies. Further, painting competition prizes were awarded to the winners of various categories. Earlier, a silent prayer was offered in remembrance of Jadonang’s bravery, welcome address was delivered by Namsinlung Pamei, member RWS; folk song presented by Tangnajeilong Youth Organisation and vote of thanks by Kambuiga Dangmei, convenor organizing committee.
