Seized liquor destroyed in Mokokchung, Chiechama

A huge cache of liquor- 4000 cases which include beer, rum and whisky seized by law enforcing agencies in Mokokchung were destroyed at Mokokchung Municipal Council Dumping Ground (Ungma area) on August 28.
According to official bulletin, the destruction of seized liquors was held in presence of S.P Mokokchung, Bendang Lemtor, district and session judge, Mokokchung, Maongkaba Imchen, Additional PP and Chairman, Destruction Committee, T. Marlemba, SDO (C) Mokokchung, Nungsangmenla, civil society and church leaders.
Additional PP, Marlemba said the value of the seized liquors was work out at Rs. 1 Crore (local market rate). He also said the seizure was made during the last seven months.
During a brief function at the destruction site, pastor, Mokokchung Town Baptist Church Reverend Ponen Longchar and Ao Senden President, Lendi Ao thanked the law enforcing agencies for implementing the Act with a firm hand.
The two leaders termed liquor as the main source of all evils and assured full cooperation in the implementation of the Act. The quantity of liquors was so huge that around 30 labors were engaged to destroy the seizure.
CVYO destroys IMFL worth Rs.30,000
Meanwhile, Chiechama Village Youth Organization (CVYO) had carried out destruction of seized IMFL worth Rs.30,000/- in presence of village council chairman and members, leaders of Women Society, Chiechama Students’ Union and village elders on August 29.
The IMFL were seized by the youth organization during its first phase exercise of frisking as part of the enforcement of total prohibition in the village jurisdiction as authorized by the village council and as per the resolution of the CVYO. The CVYO thanked the various organization and individuals for their cooperation and encouragement.
Meanwhile, it also informed that the organization would soon carry out the second phase of similar frisking very soon and warned that any person(s) who opposes to its resolution or is found in a drunken state and disturbing the peace and tranquility, stern exemplary action will be initiate against the law breaker as per its resolution.
Further, CVYO also requested the various organization and concerned individuals of Chiechama village to extend full cooperation and helping hand in its second phase of enforcement of Liquor prohibition and frisking. CVYO Assistant General Secretary Kevisetuo Chadi stated this in a press statement.
