1 killed in alleged fake encounter, five militants arrested in Imphal

In an alleged fresh case of fake encounter Wednesday night around 8.45 pm, the Manipur police commandos killed a youth near Venus academy junction under Singjamei police station in Imphal west district.
The family had refused to take back the dead body claiming that the deceased Ratan was picked up by police personnel in civil dress in a gypsy of Imphal west district police from their locality.
The police also said that a 9 mm pistol with some live rounds was also recovered from the slain youth.
According to PTI, the commandos stepped up frisking at a place between Ningombam and Mongsangei village in Imphal West district at around 9 p.m. During the frisking of passers-by, some persons moving in a suspicious manner were asked to stop for checking, the police said.
When challenged, the militants fired at the security men. In the exchange of fire, an unidentified militant was killed while several others escaped under cover of darkness, the police said.
The slain youth was identified as one Irengbam Ratan (26) son of Babu of Phaobakchao village of Imphal West district presently residing at Langol Game village.
“We could not receive the dead body. He is neither a militant nor killed in encounter. We will seek justice into the killing,” the family members claimed.
The police said that the suspect was killed in an encounter with the police commandos initiated by armed militants.
Meanwhile, police arrested five militants of Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council (KCP-MC) from separate places in Manipur’s capital complex here on Thursday.
Two women KCP-MC members identified as T Omita and R K Helena were arrested from Khongman area near here yesterday. Two mobile phone handsets were recovered from them.
Another KCP-MC member identified as Kh Dhamendra was arrested from Singjamei area near here ysterday by police commandos.
In another search operation, another KCP-MC man identified K Shyamkishor was also nabbed from Lamabam area here. A KCP-MC militant identified as A Bikramjit was also arrested from Lamabam Mayai Leikai area near here yesterday, the police said.
Two hand grenades, ten rounds of ammunition of AK-47, one 9 mm pistol with some live rounds and some ‘demand letters’ asking people to give money to the outfit were also recovered from the arrested militants, the police said.
