Conman’s accomplice arrested

Close on the heels of the arrest of conman Abu Sayed, who had cheated scores of people to the tune of over Rs.6 crore, his accomplice, identified as Zakir Hussein, was handed over to Dimapur police on Sunday after his arrest by Assam Police on August 30.
Abu Sayed used to pay double the sum in counterfeit notes for amount he received in genuine currency notes from victims, who were mostly from Nagaland.
OC East P.S. Dimapur, Atu Zumvu said the police team led by SI Mhabeni brought Zakir from Guwahati with an arrest warrant and he was produced to the court of the CJM Dimapur Monday. He was remanded to ten days police custody.
Zakir confessed there were 35 others involved in the scam all of who were currently residing at Lakhimpur.Assam. In view of the magnitude of the case, a Special Investigation Team was constituted under SDPO Dimapur Shouka Kakheto. Abu Sayed has been charged with several crimes including rape, molestation, attempt to murder, abduction etc.
