State forest department has described as “wild and baseless” the statements made by various timber associations alleging its department officials of “wrong doing by selling wagons meant for transportation of timber outside the northeast region.” Forest department, PCCF Nagaland in a faxed statement said that the department adhered only to transportation guidelines issued by the court appointed committee. The department, however, said that the recommendations of Dimapur Timber Industries Association was taken into consideration, considering the past requests of the various timber associations and unions to streamline the distribution procedure for moulding and tree farm timber, starting with the last quarter transportation (April to June, 2010), for the distribution of wagons for the above categories.
