Government of Nagaland in association with World Bamboo Organization (WBO) would be organizing ‘World Bamboo Day’ celebration in Nagaland on September 18. Vice president M. Hamid Ansari would grace the occasion as the chief guest on September 18. This is the first time the state would be hosting the first ever ‘World bamboo Day’ with the theme ‘Bamboo for livelihood and community development’ celebrations under the aegis of the World Bamboo Organization after the declaration of World bamboo Day at Bangkok in September 2009.
Along with World Bamboo Day celebration, a ‘North East International Bamboo Festival’ would being held for three days from September 16 to 18.
The event is being organized under the chairmanship of state chief minister Neiphiu Rio who is also member advisory council of WBO. Organisers are expecting over 200 participants from the country and around the world, including members of WBO, high level policy makers from government of India, North Eastern states, officials and ambassadors and High commissioners from ASEAN countries. The highlights of the celebration include international seminar, a regional workshop on bamboo furniture, bamboo planting, run for bamboo marathon, symposium and workshops, competition among students, exhibition on bamboo craft and products, bamboo sports, bamboo music and food festival.
